How cool is this? Billy, the blue beetle is a proof-of-concept 3D printed hexapod robot. Billy can be controlled from a smartphone via Bluetooth, and has 2 different sets of legs: straight ones or spiral ones. After 20 days of rapid prototyping it can already walk and climb obstacles. Designed by Jonathan Spitz, Technion-Israel Institute of Technology PhD student, in Prof. Miriam Zacksenhouse’s SMILE Lab at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. It took 24 hours and 8 batches for the 3D print process and he can be controlled by a smartphone with Bluetooth.
