Admission Requirements

Students must meet the following requirements to be accepted to the program:

• An SAT, ACT, or Israeli Psychometric Entrance Test score.
• Foreign high school matriculation requirements as outlined below.
• English proficiency – A minimum score of 120 on the English section of the Israeli Psychometric Entrance Test or the AMIRAM test, or an equivalent score on the English section of the SAT or ACT.
• Participation in advisor interview to ensure program suitability (only required for student applying under Clause 3 or 4 below).

Calculation of the Sekem grade

The Technion calculates a “Sekem” grade for each candidate. The Sekem grade is the combination of the best matriculation average from abroad, recognized by the Technion, together with the multidisciplinary Israeli psychometric grade or the SAT/ACT. The current minimum Sekem grade to be accepted to the program is 87 out of 100. Please note the Sekem grade will be updated in January of each year.

Foreign high school matriculation requirements:

1. Acceptance based on the five types of recognized foreign matriculations/diplomas (AP tests, OSSD, IB, BAC, GSCE):

Admission is based on the Sekem calculation for the five types of diplomas recognized by the Technion, with detailed criteria available on the registration and admission website: https://admissions.technion.ac.il/en/english/ib-ossd-bacs-gcse-ap-tests/2.

2. Acceptance based on admissions criteria of the Supplementary Countries List subject to the following minimum requirements:

• • The highest level of mathematics available in the country where the qualification was awarded, with a ‘very high’ grade.
  • At least one science subject, with a ‘very high’ grade, from among: physics, biology, chemistry, or computer science.
  • Psychometric/SAT score requirement – A weighted score equivalent to the Israeli Psychometric Entrance Test score corresponding to the current Sekem admissions score in the table of admission thresholds for the supplementary countries list. The minimum threshold for Winter 2027–28 will be at least 675. The threshold will be updated in January in accordance with the Sekem scores established for the Hebrew-language programs for 2027–28.
  • Applicants who meet the requirement for mathematics at the highest level but do not meet the requirement for an additional science subject will be referred to the program’s academic committee for consideration.

3. Holders of foreign secondary-school qualifications not covered by the above admission requirements (where a Sekem score cannot be calculated and/or the qualification is not recognized by the supplementary countries list) must meet the following minimum requirements for their application to be considered:

• • Psychometric/SAT score requirement – A weighted score equivalent to the Israeli Psychometric Entrance Test score corresponding to the current Sekem admissions score in the table of admission thresholds for the supplementary countries list. The threshold for consideration during early registration for Winter 2027–28 will be at least 675. The threshold will be updated in January in accordance with the Sekem scores established for the Hebrew-language programs for 2027–28.
  • A secondary-school qualification that includes mathematics and at least one additional science subject (physics, chemistry, biology, or computer science), both at the highest level available in the country where the qualification was awarded, with grades equivalent to at least 85.
  • A statement of purpose/motivation letter from the applicant.

The application will be referred to the program’s academic committee for consideration and decision. At its discretion, the committee may invite applicants for an interview.

4. Applicants in their final year of high school (studying solely toward a foreign secondary-school qualification) must meet the requirements set out in clauses 1–3, but may submit predicted grades issued by their school on the basis of their Grade 11 results instead of a final secondary-school certificate. The application will be referred to the program’s academic committee for consideration and decision.

Final admission is conditional upon submission of proof of eligibility for the secondary-school qualification by the beginning of studies at the Technion.

Applicants admitted on the basis of predicted grades or first-semester Grade 12 results whose request to defer studies has been approved will have their candidacy reassessed on the basis of the final grades they submit.

Additional requirements

Admission based on prior academic background: Admission will be assessed according to the procedure used for the Hebrew-language program. Applicants should note that students enrolled in this program must complete the program’s full curriculum. During the first year, no exemptions from Technion courses will be granted on the basis of prior academic study. Only after transferring to a faculty may students apply to that faculty for course exemptions.

Requests to defer studies (DEFER): Under certain conditions, applicants may request a one-year deferral of studies only, including retention of their place and continued fulfillment of the admission requirements. Such requests will be submitted for approval to the admissions office. Applicants may submit a deferral request until May 1; later requests will not be accepted. The letter approving the deferral of admission will address the applicant’s obligation to meet any changes in the admission requirements.
