Faculty of Chemical Engineering

Field of Research
Open positions for graduate projects focusing on developing novel polyelectrolyte- and ionomer- based membranes for energy- and water-related application.                   Project 1. Water scarcity is increasingly important global problem and utilization of wastewater for growing food is an important and affordable resource. Israel has been a leader in wastewater reuse, yet new solutions are required to meet growing demand and shortage of land for wastewater treatment. As a novel approach, we develop new types of nanofiltration membranes specifically tailored for sustainable wastewater purification for reuse.                                                                                           Project 2. Energy storage is critical for future sustainable energy economy. Fuel cell and electrolysis are key technologies to future generation and utilization of sustainable energy; however, their implementation needs to overcome several obstacles. As one such hurdle, membrane separators still need to achieve higher ionic conductivity and durability. We develop a novel approach to making composite ion-conductive membranes, which has been successfully demonstrated for proton-conductors and is being extended to anion-conducting membranes, currently holding the largest promise for fuel cell technology.
